India’s Exports Surge 17% in First Four Months of FY2026-27- What It Means for Indian Exporters: Shubham Bibave & FlairList Global
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

India’s export economy has started FY2026–27 on a strong note, with merchandise exports recording double-digit growth during the first four months of the financial year.

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, India’s merchandise exports between April and July 2026 reached US$173.78 billion, compared with US$148.48 billion during the corresponding period of FY2025–26 – representing growth of 17.04%. Total exports, including merchandise and services, reached an estimated US$316.42 billion, up 13.16% year-on-year.

For Shubham Bibave & FlairList Global, the numbers are significant not simply because exports are growing, but because they provide context to what businesses are seeing on the ground.

Buyer demand, emerging markets, changing product categories and new trade agreements are increasingly shaping the opportunities available to Indian businesses.

India’s July Export Performance Sends a Strong Signal

July 2026 itself recorded merchandise exports of US$44.24 billion, compared with US$36.98 billion in July 2025.

That represents a substantial year-on-year increase.

India’s total exports, including services, were estimated at US$80.14 billion in July 2026, up 13.31% from US$70.72 billion a year earlier.

The growth is also not restricted to a single category.

According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, major drivers of merchandise export growth in July included:

  • Petroleum products
  • Electronic goods
  • Engineering goods
  • Organic and inorganic chemicals
  • Cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products

Electronic goods exports, for example, increased 57.40% year-on-year, rising from US$3.76 billion in July 2025 to US$5.92 billion in July 2026.

Engineering goods exports increased 17.71%, while petroleum product exports rose 67.64% during the same period.

This tells us something important about the evolution of India’s export basket.

India’s Export Story Is Becoming More Diverse

For years, discussions around Indian exports often centred around agriculture, textiles, gems and jewellery, petroleum products and traditional manufacturing.

Those categories remain important.

But the recent numbers show a broader story.

Electronics and engineering products are increasingly contributing to India’s export growth, while chemicals, textiles and other manufactured products continue to find international demand.

For Shubham Bibave & FlairList Global, this diversification is particularly relevant because export opportunities are no longer restricted to businesses that have traditionally considered themselves “exporters.”

Manufacturers, processors, MSMEs, traders and emerging product companies can increasingly participate in international markets – provided they understand where demand exists and how to reach it.

The question is therefore changing.

It is no longer simply:

“What can India export?”

It is increasingly:

“Which Indian businesses can identify the right international demand and build a reliable supply around it?”

The Numbers Are Positive – But Exporters Still Need to Read the Market

Strong export growth does not automatically mean that every product category or every exporter will benefit equally.

The same government data shows that India’s merchandise trade deficit during April–July 2026–27 stood at US$118.60 billion, compared with US$96.66 billion during the same period a year earlier.

This is an important reminder that headline export growth needs to be understood alongside the broader trade picture.

For individual exporters, macroeconomic numbers should act as a starting point for research.

A business selling processed foods, for example, needs to know which markets are importing the category, what specifications buyers require, how competitors are positioned and what landed pricing looks like.

Similarly, a manufacturer looking at engineering exports needs to identify the markets where Indian products have a competitive advantage.

Growth at the national level creates an environment of opportunity.

Market intelligence determines where that opportunity actually exists.

From Export Growth to Export Execution

This is where Shubham Bibave & FlairList Global sees an important gap in the Indian export ecosystem.

India has enormous production capacity.

It has established manufacturing clusters, agricultural supply chains, skilled professionals and an expanding network of international trade agreements.

But production capacity alone does not guarantee export success.

A business needs to connect several moving parts:

Product → Market → Buyer → Pricing → Supply → Logistics → Execution

If even one of these is poorly understood, the export opportunity can become difficult to convert.

This is why real-time buyer behaviour and trade enquiries can be valuable sources of market intelligence.

When similar requirements begin appearing repeatedly across markets, they can provide an indication of where demand is developing.

The ability to interpret these signals can help businesses move from simply being capable of supplying a product to becoming strategically positioned for international markets.

What Indian Exporters Should Watch Next

The latest numbers provide a positive foundation for FY2026–27.

But exporters should pay attention to three areas going forward.

First – product diversification.

India’s export growth is increasingly coming from a wider mix of manufactured and value-added products.

Second – market diversification.

With global trade becoming more fragmented and competitive, relying excessively on a single destination can increase business risk.

Third – execution capability.

International buyers increasingly expect suppliers to respond quickly, understand specifications and maintain reliable supply.

For Shubham Bibave & FlairList Global, the larger opportunity lies at the intersection of these three factors.

India already has the supply.

The next challenge is connecting that supply with the right global demand.
