Ziqitza Rajasthan- Infant care during Covid-19 3rd wave
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

People are still studying and learning more about COVID-19 as it spreads, as well as the various measures for protecting themselves from it, such as physical distancing, hand washing, and wearing a face mask in public places. While adults take these precautions, parents may be anxious about how to care for their children during an epidemic. If you’re a new mother, you’re probably concerned about your child’s health in the thick of the pandemic. Even if no one in your family has been diagnosed with this disorder, take all necessary precautions to keep your child safe. Don’t worry, Ziqitza is here to help, and here are some simple steps you can do to keep your baby healthy and strong.

Encourage hand-washing

Before holding your new-born, family members, friends, and visitors should be encouraged to wash their hands with an antibacterial hand wash. Even if they are asymptomatic, they may be infectious or transfer deadly bacteria.

Breastfeeding is encouraged

Breastfeeding is critical and required, according to various research and surveys, especially during this period to fight disease and boost the newborn’s antibodies. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), if a nursing mother exhibits any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, she should exercise caution and take precautions such as wearing a face mask and practicing excellent hand hygiene to avoid infecting her child. Before and after each usage, the breast pump should be cleaned with warm water.

Vaccinate

This is divided into two categories: immunizations for your child and vaccinations for those around them. New-borns will only receive their Hepatitis B vaccination at birth, with the rest administered at later dates during the next four years.

As a result, it’s important to ensure that all adults – including caregivers, family, and friends – and all children over the age of six months are up to date on their vaccination schedule, as recommended by your doctor.

Ensure your child is hydrated

Keep an eye on your baby’s hydration levels. Hydration promotes the function of mucous membranes and the respiratory system, both of which are essential for optimal health. Keep your baby hydrated, whether with breast milk, infant formula, or water. As a general rule, they should wet at least four to six nappies per day.

Observe the Physical Distance rules.

When it comes to physical distance, it’s vital to obey the guidelines of organizations like the World Health Organization and the Government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. At this moment, your friends and family may be excited to see the infant in person, but it’s best to stay a safe distance from them or arrange for a video conference to see the child.

Check your hand sanitizer

Using hand sanitizer and then contacting your baby could result in alcohol exposure. For example, if you touched their hands or arms after applying hand sanitizer and they subsequently placed their hands in their mouth, they will consume the alcohol. So, unless you’re certain about the contents and how safe they are, avoid using hand sanitizer wipes or gels.

Manage other areas of germ exposure

Consider where your child will go. Consider how you can restrict your newborn’s exposure to pathogens in settings ranging from childcare centers to friends’ homes. You could, for example, avoid bringing toys to the childcare center, where they could take even more germs. Avoiding crowds throughout the first two months of your newborn’s life may also be a smart idea.

However, keep in mind that a newborn can catch up to ten colds in his or her first two years of life. Keeping your infant from socializing and playing because you’re worried about germs could backfire because occasional germ contact helps them establish a robust immune system. As a result, it’s critical that you take a balanced approach.

Consult your child’s paediatrician for further information.

If necessary, or if your child’s immunization is delayed, never hesitate to consult your baby’s paediatrician. If your infant is in any pain, get medical attention or talk with your doctor right away.
