“Droplets of Dew” – Debojit Barthakur’s Gentle Testament to Memory, Nature, and the Soul of Humanity

Some poetry doesn’t arrive with thunder—it arrives like morning mist, subtle but unforgettable. Droplets of Dew, the debut collection by Debojit Barthakur, is one such offering—a quiet, lyrical journey through emotion, memory, nature, and the enduring intricacies of human experience.

Recipient of the 2025 Emily Dickinson Award, Debojit’s work invites readers to slow down, to feel more deeply, and to honor the seemingly small moments that shape who we are. Each poem is a glimmer—a gentle pause in time, a whisper from the past, or a deeply personal reflection on love, loss, and longing.

Born in the serene hills of Shillong, Meghalaya, Debojit spent his childhood among untouched forests and blooming gardens—natural sanctuaries that continue to echo through his poetry. Even as his professional life led him far from home—working across oceans, deserts, and oilfields as a technical engineer—it was always the trees, the rain, and the warmth of home that rooted his soul.

“I am a lover of literature by heart, a technocrat by chance,” he says, and this duality gives his writing a rare perspective: one that balances technical precision with emotional fluency. In Droplets of Dew, we feel the touch of both—of science meeting sentiment, of structure wrapped in soul.

The collection reflects not only Debojit’s love for Nature, but also his reverence for human connection. His verses are filled with heartfelt tributes to his parents, friendships that have withstood time, and the values that shaped him. In moments that feel intensely personal, his words still find a way to resonate universally.

Each poem, though simple in form, is steeped in meaning. Readers are drawn into scenes from across continents—from the oilfields of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the quiet hills of Northeast India. Through his verses, one glimpses not just landscapes, but emotional terrains—the solitude of work, the pull of home, the ache of nostalgia, and the soft hope of remembering.

What makes Droplets of Dew so stirring is that it’s not just a book—it’s a heart, open and honest. It doesn’t seek to impress. It seeks to connect—offering a poetic mirror to anyone who has ever paused to reflect on where they’ve been, who they’ve loved, or what they’ve quietly carried inside.

The judges of the Emily Dickinson Award praised Debojit for his “genuine, deeply-felt voice and his ability to transform ordinary reflections into lasting emotion.” It is, indeed, rare to find poetry that feels both meditative and alive—and yet, every page of Droplets of Dew carries that quiet spark.

With this work, Debojit Barthakur has emerged not just as a promising new poet, but as a voice for stillness in a noisy world—a reminder that tenderness is strength, and that poetry, at its best, is communion.
